Biocombustibles: el debate de la sustentabilidad Biofuels: the discussion of sustainability Buraschi, Mónica biocombustibles sustentabilidad desarrollo sostenible biofuels sustainability sustainable development El debate en torno a la sustentabilidad de los biocombustibles pasó por tres etapas: en un comienzo se generalizó el discurso que fomentaba su producción como la solución al problema del calentamiento global; posteriormente se los atacó por el impacto ambiental y social negativo asociado a los cultivos de tipo extensivo necesarios para la obtención de la materia prima, y finalmente las posiciones se moderaron, a medida que se lograron avances en materia de fijación de estándares internacionales de sustentabilidad. En el presente trabajo repasamos los aspectos fundamentales en torno a las distintas posturas sobre el tema desde la perspectiva de las relaciones internacionales y el comercio exterior, destacando oportunidades y amenazas de esta actividad para nuestro país. The debate around sustainability of biofuels went through three stages: in the beginning there was a generalized speech that encouraged their production as the solution to the problem of global warming; afterwards, biofuels were attacked because of the negative environmental and social impacts associated with the extensive crops through which raw material is obtained, and finally positions were eased, as progress was made in setting international standards for sustainability. In this paper we review the fundamental aspects about the different positions on the issue from the perspective of international relations and foreign trade, highlighting opportunities and threats of this activity for our country.
