Los cambios en el diseño organizacional constituyen una importante fuente para el incremento de la eficiencia y la eficacia de estas y por tanto de su competitividad. En correspondencia con ello, es que se han desarrollado diferentes tipologías, que constituyen alternativas viables que requieren ser analizadas en relación con el contexto en que se desempeñan las mismas. En el presente artículo, se esbozan posiciones de los autores en cuanto a la necesidad de integrar los supuestos sobre la razón de ser de las organizaciones en los procesos de diseño; así como la viabilidad de las formas organizativas desarrolladas en los últimos años, la cual se encuentra condicionada por su concepción desde la perspectiva del enfoque contingente.
